How to Use the Word & Character Counter

Paste or type your text into the large editor at the top of the page. Every count updates as you type: total words, characters with and without spaces, sentences and paragraphs. Reading time assumes an average silent reading speed, while speaking time uses a slower presentation pace, which makes the tool useful for both blog drafts and scripts you plan to read aloud.

Below the counts you will find keyword density, which lists the most frequent meaningful terms in your text along with how often each appears and its share of the total. Common filler words are filtered out by default so the results reflect your actual topic, and you can turn that filter off if you want the raw frequency. All processing happens inside your browser, so nothing you paste is uploaded anywhere.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is reading time calculated?
Reading time divides your word count by an average adult silent reading speed of around 200 to 250 words per minute; speaking time uses roughly 130 words per minute.
What keyword density should I aim for?
For most web writing, a main keyword appearing in one to two percent of the text reads naturally. Much higher densities usually look forced to both readers and search engines.
